The pandemic may have hampered Marvel Studios’ plans for 2020, with the spy thriller Black Widow getting pushed the following year, but that didn’t stop the entertainment giant from unloading its massive plans for 2021 and beyond, as the company shared its share of upcoming releases during Disney’s Investor Stream on Dec. 11.
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reunite in the Disney+ exclusive WandaVision. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Wanda Maximoff, and Vision are living the ideal suburban life in the town of Westview, trying to conceal their powers. But as they begin to enter new decades and encounter television tropes, the couple suspects things are not as they seem.
As the trailer suggests, the series seems to have incorporated elements from iconic comic book stories such as The House of M, in which the Scarlet Witch warps reality into a false paradise. WandaVision hits Disney+ on Jan. 15.
Asgard’s resident deity of mischief seemingly enters the crime game, as Tom Hiddleston’s cunning MCU character returns in the Disney+ series Loki. Springing out of the 2012 segment in Avengers: Endgame, Loki finds himself within the clutches of a mysterious investigative team known as the TVA. Amusingly, the trailer implies that the god of mischief will recreate some of history’s most heinous crimes – in wild and outlandish ways.
Loki will make his comeback to the MCU in May 2021.
From former enemies to sworn allies, Captain America’s closest friends lead the cast of Disney+’s Falcon and The Winter Soldier. After being handed the mantle of Captain America at the end of Endgame, Sam Wilson teams up with Bucky Barnes in a worldwide adventure that puts their abilities to the test as they fight the anarchist group the Flag-Smashers. With a resurfacing Baron Zemo joining their newest adversaries, things will surely become wild for our patriotic duo.
Falcon and The Winter Soldier debuts on March 19, 2021.
What would happen if Peggy Carter took the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers? Have you tried to imagine the Black Panther assuming the role of Star Lord than leading the kingdom of Wakanda? All those questions will be answered in the upcoming animated anthology What If…?, a show that reimagines the MCU in various ways.
Delve into the Marvel Cinematic Universe anew as What If…? hits Disney+ mid-2021.
After months of speculation and rumors, Disney has officially announced the inclusion of singer-actress Hailey Steinfeld as Kate Bishop in the upcoming live-action series Hawkeye. Nothing much has been revealed about the plot yet, but it is assumed that the show will follow closely the Hawkeye story arcs established in the comic books by Matt Fraction and David Aja.
Hawkeye is currently in production and is slated to premiere in 2021.
Captain Marvel may be busy saving the galaxy, but fear not, Earthlings: Ms. Marvel is here. The spunky, young heroine will finally make her much-awaited live-action debut in her self-titled Disney+ show. Iman Vellani will star as Kamala Khan, while Brie Larson and Teyonna Parris are expected to make an appearance as well.
Ms. Marvel is set to premiere sometime in Disney+ in 2021.
New shows are also bound to debut in the fourth phase of the MCU. Tatiana Masalany and Mark Ruffalo will appear in She-Hulk, while Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn will reprise their Captain Marvel roles for Secret Invasion, a series inspired by the Skrull-invasion event comic of the same name.
Don Cheadle is expected to don the War Machine armor in the upcoming show Armor Wars, while Dominique Thorne will follow Tony Stark’s footsteps as Riri Williams in Ironheart.
Marvel has also teased that its royal family in the form of the Fantastic Four will make a combeack to the big screen.
