Riot Games announced earlier this year that big changes were to come in the NA LCS. It involved shared league revenue with the teams and pro players that will be a part of the league. What was perhaps the biggest change was the implementation of the franchising system and the removal of the relegation system.

After many months, Riot finally announced the ten teams that fans can watch at the 2018 season in the NA LCS. The roster of ten teams has a mix of old fan favorites to new teams with very famous roots.

Returning to the NA LCS are the six-time North American champions, Team SoloMid; two of the longest-running teams in the region, Counter Logic Gaming and Team Liquid; one of the championship-level teams since joining the league in 2013, Cloud9; and two of the surprising younger teams in the league, FlyQuest and Echo Fox.

Optic Gaming

Golden Guardians

Along with them a legendary name in the esports scene joins them in Optic Gaming. While three new teams will also look to make a new for themselves with backing from traditional sports teams; the Golden State Warriors-backed, Golden Guardians, the Houston Rockets-backed Clutch Gaming, and the Cleveland Cavaliers-backed, 100 Thieves.

100 Thieves

Clutch Gaming

Sadly, some teams that fans won’t be seeing from the previous season are Phoenix1, Team Dignitas, and 2017 World Championship NA second seed, Immortals.

It’s just a matter of time until we see how the different teams will be filling up their roster especially with the variety of talent within the region and beyond.

It truly is a new era for the North American League of Legends Championship Series!
