Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 Impressions

Massive tech giant, Asus has just launched the latest addition to the Max Pro line, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 which is available now in partner stores nationwide! Hot of the heels of the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, which was released earlier this year, the Max Pro M2 promises to improve upon its predecessor and deliver a true gaming, photography and entertainment experience that’s better than ever before! We had some hands-on time with the Max Pro M2 before the launch in Ayala 30th and here’s our first impressions with the new Battery King!

First off, in terms of design and form factor the Max Pro M2 is certainly flashier than its predecessor. It retains the smooth curved out look of the M1 which makes it such an absolute pleasure to hold. The front of the M2 sports the ultra durable gorilla glass 6 making it only the second phone to have it equipped (the first being the Asus ROG phone). A big change up with the M2 is the addition of the notch up front, housing the selfie camera and  phone receiver. In my experience handling different smartphones, I’ve grown to dislike the obstruction that notches usually cause, so I’m not particularly crazy about this feature. We’ll definitely be thoroughly testing various essential apps and features to find out whether this particular notch helps more than it hinders or vice versa for our full review which is soon to follow.

At the back, the Max Pro M2 prides itself with a beautiful metallic back finish that emulates the waves of the ocean. Where the M1’s matte back was simple and no frills, the M2’s “Dynamic Optical Finish”  is straight up flashy and gorgeous. Additionally, this time around the Asus logo is now more prominent in the back sporting a new metallic coating as opposed to the understated logo of the M1. For the most part the placement of the dual cameras on the left, the Asus logo in the middle and the fingerprint sensor above it remain relatively unchanged from the M1.

The Zenfone Max Pro M2 proudly proclaims itself as “The Battery King” and with its whopping 5000 mAh battery, this midrange heavyweight truly deserves the crown. As it stands, the M2 claims to be the lightest 5000 mAh phone which makes it absolutely perfect for long term usage such as gaming. Under the hood, the M2 runs a Snapdragon 660 Processor on a Stock Android Oreo interface helping it consume power more efficiently without taking a hit on its performance. The M2 also has a 64 gb internal memory and 6GB RAM.

A key focus of improvement for the Zenfone Max Pro M2 is the camera. In the launch event at the Ayala 30th, Senior Manger for Systems Marketing and self-confessed photography buff Andrew Chan showed off some of his favorite photos he has taken with the Max Pro M2 all around the city. It was a very impressive display featuring a variety of photos that looked professionally taken on an expensive DSLR camera. There where shots where the subject was in motion, night shots with neon lights, dynamic bokeh shots, and pictures of cathedrals where the sky beyond it was captured perfectly in detail.  You can see some of the photos like the one below and others taken by Mr. Chan and other Zenfone Max Pro M2 users in this album.

This uptick in camera quality is largely attributed to the more robust Pro Mode camera setting and the new AI Capabilities (which as of the time of writing has yet to be patched in) which makes sure users get the most of the 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel rear camera and the much improved 13-megapixel front camera. We can’t wait to try out the new camera and play around with the setting to achieve photos that look like the ones featured during the presentation.

The Zenfone Max Pro M2 is available now in all partner stores nationwide,  with the 6GB RAM Variant at PHP 14, 995. There’s also the 4GB Variant available only for pre-order on Lazada and Shopee for PHP 12, 995!
