The Square Enix press conference at E3 2019 was one of the most-anticipated shows of the event because of the expected news on the much-awaited Final Fantasy 7 Remake. But apart from the remake of one of the most iconic RPGs in gaming history, Square Enix also announced several other remasters and remakes as well as a few new and previously released titles that it plans to bring to the west.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Gameplay Trailer
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was undeniably the biggest game included in Square Enix’s E3 press conference line-up. During the event, Square Enix showed off the title’s combat system, which combines real-time action and the original’s ATB system for using abilities, spells, and items. A new trailer was also released, finally showing Tifa’s new design for the remake. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is scheduled for release on March 3, 2020, for the PlayStation 4.
Final Fantasy 8 Remastered Announced, Trailer Released
Square Enix also announced that Final Fantasy 8 would be remastered version later this year for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch. FF8 is the latest game in the franchise to get a remastered version and a trailer showing off its visual improvements was released. Square Enix previously announced that it was porting many of the other Final Fantasy games to the Xbox One and Switch but FF8 was surprisingly missing from the list. The reason for that looks pretty clear now.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Set for Winter Release
The release window of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered was also announced during the Square Enix E3 press conference. Previously announced for release sometime in 2019, it looks like the release might be pushed back a bit as this latest announcement slated the game’s launch for Winter 2020. Additionally, the game will now also be coming to both Android and iOS in addition to the previously announced PS4 and Switch release.
War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is one of the most popular gacha franchises in the market and Square Enix is looking to build on that popularity with the announcement of War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. A spin-off from FFBE, War of the Visions looks to take more inspiration from Final Fantasy Tactics when it comes to both its story and gameplay. The new mobile gacha game will be released in Japan for iOS and Android later this year.
Romancing Saga 3 and Saga Scarlet Grace: Ambitions Getting Worldwide Release
Romancing Saga 3 and Saga Scarlet Grace: Ambitions are finally releasing outside of Japan, according to an announcement by Square Enix during their E3 press conference. Both of the games are remastered versions and will be released globally on the Switch, PS4, PC, iOS, and Android. Romancing Saga 3 will also be available on the Xbox One, PS Vita, and the Microsoft Store. No release dates have been announced for both games though.
Outriders Officially Unveiled from Gears of War Judgement Developer
Outriders is a new IP from People Can Fly, developers of Gears of War Judgement and Bulletstorm. It’s a 1 to 3-player, co-op shooter that will feature drop-in-drop-out multiplayer . It is set to be released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in the summer of 2020, with more information planned for release sometime during the winter of 2020. A trailer for the new game was released alongside the announcement showing the game’s dark sci-fi setting.
Oninaki Release Date Announced, New Trailer Released
The release date of Oninaki was finally announced at the Square Enix E3 press conference, the game was originally announced back in April. The third RPG from I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear developer Tokyo RPG Factory is now scheduled for release on August 22, 2019, for the PS4, PC, and Switch. The new trailer that came along with the announcement gives us a glimpse at the new title’s isometric action-RPG gameplay.
Marvel’s Avenger Game from Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal Unveiled
Lastly, Square Enix finally pulled the wraps off of the much-awaited Marvel’s Avengers game from Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. The new title will feature an original story and will star Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Captain America, although from the looks of the trailer it seems like Cap bites the bullet early in the game. Marvel’s Avengers will be released on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 15, 2020.
