Evo 2018 Results and Announcements Round-up

Evo (Evolution Championship Series) 2018, the biggest international fighting game tournament of the year, has just concluded and featured some incredible wins (Problem-X beating Tokido and becoming the UK’s Street Fighter Evo champion), some shocking losses (Armada losing to Swedish Delight and getting sent to Loser’s Bracket in Pools), and its fair share of controversy (The Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Grand Finals).

This year’s Evo, the tournament’s 17th installment, featured eight headline titles – Dragon Ball FighterZ, Street Fighter V Arcade Edition, Tekken 7, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Melee, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, and Injustice 2.

Notably, Evo 2018 was the first to not feature a Marvel vs. Capcom game since 2002 (or 1996, if you include the original Battle by the Bays tournaments) and the first to feature only one Capcom title. On the other hand, the event featured three titles from developer Arc System Work. Namely, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle.

Aside from the tournaments themselves, Evo 2018 also played host to several special announcements for some of the event’s headlining titles, including Street Fighter V Arcade Edition, Tekken 7, and Dragon Ball FighterZ.
