Overwatch League Season 1 – Stage 3 Week 2 Recap

Stage 3 – Week 2 of Overwatch League Season 1 provided tons of close Overwatch games, as more than half of the week’s series went to deciding game 5 matches (seven out of twelve to be exact). By the end of week 2, it was Los Angeles Valiant and Boston Uprising that took the top two spots for the stage, followed closely by New York Excelsior and Los Angeles Gladiators.

Here are the Stage 3 Standings as of Week 2:

Last weeks’ top team (and Stage 2 winner) NYXL got bumped down to third place this week, as they lost their series against Boston Uprising 3-2. Uprising meanwhile, won their other game of the week against Florida Mayhem to improve their Stage 3 record to 4-0.

LA Valiant is another team with a 4-0 record, as they defeated their week 2 opponents in Dallas Fuel and San Francisco Shock. Fellow LA team Gladiators also had a great week 2, as they swept Shanghai Dragons 4-0 and won over Seoul Dynasty 3-2.

Speaking of Dynasty, the team had mixed results this week. They may have lost against Gladiators, though they did win over Dallas Fuel, giving the Korean team a 2-2 record for Stage 3. Fellow all-Korean team London Spitfire did not fare much better, as they also had one loss this week against Philadelphia Fusion. On the bright side, a 1-1 record for week 2 is much better than their two losses for week 1.

Week 2 was not kind to Houston Outlaws, as the team lost two close series against Excelsior and Fusion. The bottom three team also had a tough week, as none of them were able to get at least one series win.

Here is the Overwatch League Season 1 overall standings at the end of Stage 3 – Week 2:

The overall standing remained basically unchanged from last week. Though LA Gladiators has now tied Houston Outlaws win-loss record. If Gladiators continue their current form in the coming, they’re likely to take the 7th seed from Outlaws.

Stage 3 Week 2 Highlight Matches

Seoul Dynasty vs. Los Angeles Gladiators

LA Gladiators have been on a tear recently, and their resurgence looked to be in danger, as they faced a tough opponent in Dynasty in Stage 3 Week 2. But after five exciting games, the LA squad managed to take down the Korean squad.

Game 1 on Anubis was a close match, as Dynasty had to put up a lengthy defense to win over Gladiators. LA answered in the next two games, as they took two straight wins to go up 2-1. Dynasty found their footing in Game 4 though to push the series to a deciding fifth game. Game 5 on Oasis was not as close as the previous games though, as Gladiators cruised to an easy victory to take the series 3-2.

London Spitfire vs. Philadelphia Fusion

Fusion had a rematch with Spitifire this week; both teams faced each other in the Stage 2 Playoffs a few weeks back. Like last time, the series went the distance as Fusion once again got the best of Spitfire.

Fusion opened the series strongly, as they took Games 1 and 2 to grab a commanding 2-0 series lead. Spitfire didn’t go down at that point though, as the team rallied to tie the series 2-2 to force a Game 5.

The last game of the series on Oasis was a back-and-forth affair. Fusion and Spitfire traded control of the point throughout the game, though it was Fusion that won the game in the end to secure the series 3-2.
