Sibol, the Philippine National Esports Team open qualifiers announced!

The Phlippine National Esports Team for the 30th Southeast Asian games, Sibol has been officially announced! The team was created by the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Esports Union (PSEU), as tasked by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

Sibol will be competing in all six featured titles in the esports event of the Southeast Asian games. This includes Dota 2, StarCraft II, Hearthstone, Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Tekken 7.

The respective teams will have training pool, which will be comprised of invited players and the top players from the respective qualifiers.

Qualifiers for Dota 2, Hearthstone, and Starcraft II will be done on August 10-11 with registration open until August 7. Following these games is the qualifiers for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang which will be held on August 14-16. Lastly, the Arena of Valor and Tekken 7 qualifiers will be on August 17-18. Registration for the latter three games will be open until August 11.

From the qualifiers, the top two teams from Dota 2, top two players from Hearthstone, and the top three players from StarCraft II will be included in the Sibol training pool. While the top two teams from Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, the top team from Arena of Valor, and top six players from Tekken 7 will join the training pool.

Once the training pool is complete, each player will be evaluated based on mastery in their respective title and their compatibility with the rest of the team/pool, among other factors.

The selection process and handling the teams will be done by the managers and coaches. They will be core in the selection committee who will be determining the Sibol team to compete in December.

These are respective coaches and managers for the respective titles:

Dota 2

  • Manager: Paulo Sy

StarCraft II

  • Manager: Jess Joaustine “JackDReaper” Tamboboy
  • Coach: Mark Ryan “eXoBLaZeR” Rapisura

Arena of Valor

  • Manager: Neme Victa
  • Coach: Rafael “Cyriux” Albert

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

  • Manager: Leo Andrew “Jab” Escutin
  • Coaches: Michelle “Mits” Liwanag and Brian “Panda” Lim

Tekken 7

  • Manager: Ron “Hot-E” Muyot
  • Coach: Djamille “Naturelover” San Juan

Hearthstone

  • Manager: Richard “Pompi” Castillo
  • Coach: Jan Marvin “Chalk” Zaldivar

The total pool of about 74 players will then be trimmed to the 27 Sibol members; seven for each team game (Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Arena of Valor) and two for each individual game (StarCraft II, Hearthstone, and Tekken 7) by early September.

After the teams are finalized, coaches and managers will then prepare a 3-month training program to help the team perform at top level in December.
