The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan Lets You Experience Horror With Your Friends
Posted by Raphael Leynes on July 17, 2019

The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan is the newest game from Supermassive Games, the developers of Little Big Planet and the critically-acclaimed horror game Until DawnMan of Medan, is the first game in a planned horror anthology under the label of The Dark Pictures and will be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. Supermassive plans on releasing new games in the anthology every 6 months after the initial release with each game representing a different sub-genre of horror.

In the Man of Medan, players take control of five characters that find themselves trapped  in a strange ship in the open ocean. In exploring the vessel SS Ourang Medan, the group experiences some eerie occurrences and run into the ship’s Captain, the titular Man of Medan.

A key reason of why Supermassive’s Until Dawn was such a horror hit was that it had compelling narrative and a really involved decision making system that let’s player choice steer the story–often with dire consequences. Man of Medan looks to follow a similar direction but this time, if you’re playing its 2-player online mode or 5-player local couch co-op, you get to make, share, and deal with the consequences of those choices with the rest of your friends!

The game’s Don’t Play Alone trailer shows exactly what players are in for. Watch it below:

Of course, the choices that you have to make aren’t going to be as simple as what color your clothes will be or what shoes to wear to the haunted ship. They are going to be brutal, painstaking choices that you’ll have to make under pressure with grave consequences for everyone in your group should you decide poorly. In the trailer we saw a snippet where only one player has a choice and the other player has to wait for him to make a decision. There’s also another segment where they both have to decide where they should fight or flee on the fly as the timer quickly counted down. If that sounds like your jam then it surely going to be a frantic, stressful but most of all rip-roaring good time. Prepare for your friendships to be tested.

The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan comes out 30th August 2019 for PlayStation 4, XBox One, and Steam for PC.
