We’re living in some very uncertain times as of late courtesy of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, with all the bad that’s out there in the world right now, there are also a lot of pretty amazing people that are doing a lot of good out there. We’re proud to say that the local gaming community here in the Philippines is part of that collective good. From event organizers to gaming groups and esports teams, even down to the individual gamers, the local gaming scene has been stepping up, doing what they can to help others and fighting the good fight.
Here are just some of the ways the Philippine video game community has been helping the fight against COVID-19 :
Care Crate is an online auction by the good people at Gariath Concepts featuring some cool, geeky merch like gadgets, gaming gear, and toys. All proceeds of Care Crate immediately go to medical centers and hospitals, the UP Medical Foundation and Jeepney Drivers and Operators Associations rendered unemployed by the current crisis.
So far, Care Crate has auctioned off PC monitors, headsets, video games, action figures, comics books, and even an iPhone X just to name a few! There are even several wrestling books and DVDs in the mix so you can bet I’m going in for those!
Find out more about Care Crate here. Join the final auction this Friday April 15!
The Lockdown Games is an online mobile game tournament by Mineski where players compete and raise funds to aid medical frontliners in the local front, like the UP Medical Foundation and the PGH Medical Foundation, Inc. The Lockdown Games feature the country’s most elite teams and competitors in Marvel Super War, Call of Duty Mobile and Mobile Legends duking it out while raising funds to help frontliners fighting against COVID-19.
The Lockdown Games also brought out PBA stars June Mar Fajardo, Marc Pingris, Japeth Aguilar, and Kiefer Ravena in a show match in DOTA 2 to drum up funds for the cause. As of the time of this posting, the Lockdown Games have been able to raise over 600, 000 pesos in just its third week running.
The Lockdown Games broadcasts are set to continue on every Monday to Thursday, every 5pm-8pm at the Mineski Facebook Page so check it out there.

United As One is a charity gaming stream organized by gaming creator collective Rumble Royale. It was an awesome 13-hours of streaming on March 20, featuring popular gaming creators such as Khryss Dharyll Legaspi, Tira Gaming, Coach Chuck, and ChooxTv.
All proceeds of the stream went to the UNITED NATIONS FOUNDATION to help governments and medical units fight the COVID-19.
Rumble Royale is also organizing LDR: Lock Down Rambol which is a League of Legends online gaming session with their community to socialize with and lift their spirits up during the quarantine period. LDR happens this coming Wednesday and Friday (April 15 and 17) at 8pm join the Rumble Royale Discord Server to get in on the fun!
Streaming community Amplfy brought together the top Mobile Legends esports teams in the country to participate in the Work from Home Cup, a charity tournament for the benefit of the United Nations Foundation and the World Health Organization. The best of the best in the local Mobile Legends scene were in action as Cignal Ultra, Playbook Esports, Bren Esports, Sunsparks, Onic Ph, SGD Alpha, SGD Omega, and Blacklist International competed against each other in a grueling, week-long tournament that saw Onic PH rise to the top as the first-ever Work From Home Cup Champion.
Tier One also birthed the #GamersVsCOVID initiative which serves as the rallying cry for their streamers and events dedicated to helping the ongoing efforts against COVID-19. Tier One talents GHOST Wrecker, Elie Gaming, and, MRVii Gaming have also individually donated grocery items and supplies to their local communities proving that they are truly top tier in the gaming industry and in real life.
Hey, even the soft drink brands are doing their part through gaming! Imagine that! RC Cola and Juicy Lemon teamed up for Clash for a Cause, a Mobile Legends pocket tourney between top ML teams Bren Esports, SGD Omega, ULVL, and Nexplay Predator Solid. For every 1 view the stream had, they added 1 peso to the winning team’s donation to the charity of their choice! And just for reference, they had 181,000 plus views for their 7-hour stream!
This was just the first wave of initiatives put up by our friends and colleagues in the local gaming scene and there is sure to be plenty more on the way. If you’d like to organize your own charity event, or know of a gaming charity event that we missed here, let us know in the comments below and we can help boost the signal!
