Final Fantasy VII Remake was one of the breakout hits of 2020, and Square Enix is building on that success by announcing several new titles and updates associated with the FFVII world. The company took stage during Sony’s State of Play event to unveil an upgraded PS5 iteration for FFVIIR, a compilation title for smartphones, and a battle royale game set in the wide expanse of Midgar.
After months filled with rumors revolving around an enhanced port of FFVIIR, the game finally arrives on the PS5 along with an updated version dubbed Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. Intergrade adds new story content to Remake’s story, complete with technical enhancements, visual updates, a 60FPS/4K boost, and a photo mode for photography enthusiasts.
Additionally, a new chapter will be added to the game featuring the shuriken-toting, materia-hunting heroine Yuffie Kisaragi. Dressed in an adorable moogle robe along with a new playable melee character named Sonon Kusakabe, Yuffie goes on a quest to infiltrate Shinra and obtain rare materia.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is launching on June 10, 2021, for PS4 and PS5. The game is available as a free upgrade for Sony’s next-gen console for those who already own it on the PS4, but the frame rate boost and enhanced visuals will only be available on the PS5.
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is an updated compilation of all the games and stories set in the original FFVII timeline, which means it encompasses the first FFVII game, Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and even Dirge of Cerberus. EC will serve as a chapter-structured single- player game that will cover all the important events of the main canon, in addition to new story elements focusing on the origins of SOLDIER.
FFVIIR director Tetsuya Nomura hinted in an interview that there is a high chance we’ll see a younger Sephiroth in the game. “It goes without saying that you will get to see the early days of a certain legendary hero when he was younger.”
Nomura added the game will be released in monthly installments and is set to use a materia combat system akin to the original FFVII title.
Who would’ve thought that a Final Fantasy game and the battle royale genre would coexist in one title? Set three decades after the events of FFVII, Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier focuses on the early days of SOLDIER, an experimental organization made up of enhanced soldiers. The game will feature gunplay, melee combat, magic, and an option to switch between first and third-person views.
Summons will also be an integral part of the game. Players may get to summon creatures such as Ifrit, Leviathan, or Shiva on the battlefield. Moreover, players may also square off against boss enemies from various FFVII titles.
