Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Gets 37 New Songs Added to Its Soundtrack
Posted by Paolo Arciga July 29, 2020

When news of the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 remake first came out, we were all excited to see two classic skateboarding games being revived for the current generation of consoles. The original THPS games didn’t just change video game culture, they also put skateboarding culture in the spotlight in the 2000s. Everyone who’s ever played a THPS game at some point wanted to get a board themselves, and those who had a tough time learning to skateboard still wanted to dress the part.

Aside from skateboarding fashion and the sport itself, the THPS games also highlighted yet another part of skateboarding culture: the music. Our collective idea of what skateboarding music sounds like, all comes from our experience with the THPS games: it’s a mix of hip-hop, punk rock, ska, and every genre in between. This is why it was important for the remake to retain the soundtracks of the original gamesthey’re a crucial part of the Pro Skater experience.

When THPS1+2 was announced, Activision knew right away to confirm that the original soundtracks would be returning, but an official Spotify playlist for the remake’s soundtrack revealed that certain songs from the original might be missing. Fans whose favorite songs were among those seemingly missing were understandably worried that their experience of the remake might be dampened by an incomplete soundtrack. Today, they can put those worries away because Activision just confirmed that these missing songs will be included in the remake. As an update to the remake, it’ll also include songs by newer artists, to add to the canon of THPS skateboarding anthems.

The announcement of the soundtrack additions came earlier today through a video uploaded to the official YouTube channel of music website Noisey, and it includes footage of some of the game’s classic skaters alongside new gameplay footage, as well as some performances from Rough Francis, Chaii, and Merkules, among other artists who are set to be included in the remake’s soundtrack. The official Twitter account for the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series also released a cool poster featuring all the artists who’ll be appearing on the remake’s soundtrack, and it looks like a poster for every skater’s dream music festival.
