Shanghai Dota 2 Open kicks off with 20 Chinese and SEA teams

Shanghai Dota 2 Open is back for Season 2, and is now featuring 20 teams from China and Southeast Asia regions. Some of the online group stage matches of this tournament have already started last Sept 20, but the the majority of the round robin matches and the entirety of the Playoffs will be conducted this week until the Grand Final to be held this October 7.

“The second season of Shanghai Dota 2 Open is a Chinese-based online open tournament with 20 teams competing, out of these 20 teams there are many well known teams, all fighting for the largest share of the ¥600,000 (CNY) total prize pool!” said SDO through thier website.

The Tournament Fromat was split into two stages. The first stage includes the group stage, where the 20 teams gets placed into four groups of five. This group stage is aslo played in a Best-of-Two Round Robin format where winning two games grants the team with 2 points, a tie with 1 point and losing two games with 0 points. When the group stages have concluded, the top two teams of each group will proceed to the Double Elimination Best-of-Three bracket, with a Best-of-Five Grand Final.

The tournament features some of the best Chinese and Southeast Asian teams, including those who have just had major roster changes after the Fall season shuffle. The teams participating are: Brave HeartCDEC-GamingDUOBAO, EHOME, EHOME.Keen, EHOME.Luminous, Execration, Invictus Gaming, iG.Vitality, LGD.Forever Young, Newbee, Newbee Young, TongFu, Vici Gaming, VG.J, We Are Young, EHOME.X, Longwan, MAX.X, and Rock (the last four teams mentioned were winners of the tournament’s Open Qualifiers).

Shanghai Dota 2 Open’s Season 1 saw the EHOME winning 3-1 over Newbee last January 2015 where they won more than USD 30,000. However, there were only 8 teams who participated in the said season 1.
